Apple Watch Series 12 — The All-New Health Sensing System
Series 12 is the biggest change to Apple Watch health tracking in years. A re-architected Health Sensing System pairs new optical and electrical heart sensors with the S11 chip, reading your heart rate every five seconds — sixty times more often than before — and heart rate variability every five minutes. Apple calls it the most accurate heart rate sensing in any wearable.
All that data feeds something genuinely useful: a Readiness score from 0 to 10, built from your recent activity, sleep, vitals and recovery, updating through the day. It tells you whether to push hard in the gym or take it easy, in one number.
Health that keeps working overnight
Sleep score and sleep stages run while you sleep, with sleep apnea notifications watching for signs of disturbed breathing. The ECG app checks for atrial fibrillation, hypertension notifications flag signs of consistently high blood pressure, and blood oxygen and the Vitals app run quietly in the background. A new Health Age score puts the whole picture into a single figure.
Audio Intelligence, on your wrist
The S11 chip brings a set of features that make the watch more useful day to day. Live Rewind lets you go back up to fifteen seconds to catch what you missed. Siri Recap takes high-level notes of conversations and summarises them. Sound Recognition can alert you to sirens, alarms and other important sounds. Shazam is faster than before.
Built tougher, in more finishes
Aluminium models now use Ceramic Shield 2, sixty percent tougher than the Ion-X glass of previous aluminium watches. Choose Space Gray, Black, Light Gold or Dark Bronze in aluminium, Radiant Gold or Natural in polished titanium, or Pearl White and Night Blue in ceramic. Both 42mm and 46mm sizes carry over, with 50m water resistance and fast charging throughout.
